Observation Narrative
The habitat is a small depressed area along the edge of a large polyhaline marsh near Ware Point on the north side of Onancock Creek. Vegetation is dominated by the short form of Spartina alternifolia, with Distichlis spicata and Salicornia virginica as common associates. To the north, this stand grades abruptly to tall monospecific marshes of Juncus roemerianus occupying the interior of Parkers Marsh, and to beach strand next to the creek on the south. Many discrete areas of this low marsh type are present in marshes on the Bay side of the Eastern Shore, but are greatly exceeded in extent by the Juncus roemerianus type.
